As
humanity became addicted to the convenience and the adrenaline rush of driving cars, we slowly turned our urban cores into
parking lots. Our cities now consist mostly of asphault and concrete, and thus it has become very difficult for us to dwell in the city.
My home town of Kansas
City faced the same fate of paving over nature so that cars could drive over it, but in the 1980's artists started buying cheap and abandoned, downtown buldings and converted them into an arts district, which grew into a popular destination called, The Crossroads Arts District. This gave me a foundation of hope
that inspires me to continue the legacy of enhancing the city with art.
After
I graduated from the Kansas City Art institute in 2010, I started
connecting with community builders to capture their visions of
neighborhoods where people thrive in harmony with nature. My Region
Wins!, Clement Waters, and MO Hives KC, are nonprofits I have helped to
bring art into blighted city lots and transform them into heavenly
places.
"Amazing artist to work with! You just give him the idea and Jonathan will bring even the most complex vision to life. 1000% exceeded my expectations!"- Dr. Marion Pierson, Founder/Visionary of MO Hives KC.
"
Jonathan is an 'Image Engineer'! A Sound Engineer is a master at sound,
knowing how to create the right sound by combining different elements.
Jonathan does that for us at MY REGION WINS! (MRW!) as our Vision
Designer. Jonathan's ability to take concepts, ideas,
and visions and bring them to life is AMAZING! His drawings say what
words cannot. The viewer is hit with an instant sense of hope and
possibilities upon viewing the work Jonathan has done for us. As a
nonprofit organization, we are so grateful to have an
Artist like Jonathan interested in being a part of our journey.
Thank you for what you do & continue to be great yes."
- Carl Stafford, Founder/Visionary at My Region Wins!
This vision design shows Kansas City's riverfront at the site of the old Buck O'Neil Memorial Bridge. The Central tower serves as a solar and wind-capturing powerplant, while also giving tourists and locals an impressive landmark to visit.
Rainwater and street runoff are also captured in filtering cisterns, which bring hydration to visitors and the surrounding gardens.
Lastly, river plants and gardens cleanse the polluted river and greet kayakers on their floating expeditions.
The non-profit, My Region Wins! commissioned this vision of Global One Urban Farming, to assist them in realizing their vision of a farm at 44th and Cypress Avenue.
